Tim's writing is so wonderful and thoughtful! While he shares himself and his past with us, he causes us to consider our own positions and think them through. Love his writing!!!

Dear Alice, you are the most supportive friend. Sandy and I appreciate you so much and your presence in our lives. And I always benefit from your early readings of these posts.

Don't you all parents parent with fear? Whatever their beliefs, they want to keep their children safe from whatever they believe to be harmful. Many will not agree, as is the case for everyone. A politcial conservative, liberal, or religious in one sect or another.

Hi Geri, fear always seems to accompany me in my parenting experience, even now. The key for me has been not to let it take control. When I was able “to get on top of fear” when I felt it ruling my temperament, I could see my sons more clearly and appreciate their ability to negotiate the world.

Parenting is a challenge. Am I doing it right? Should I have been more strict? Should I have been less controlling? Oy.

Probably, the lowest ability we all possess is to confront evil. However, standing up to it is wildly freeing. Just because we are strongly on the side of allowing people to write their own ideas, books and ideologies, doesn't mean we can't be ferocious. Just a thought. I like what Tim Flood writes about. It provokes and promotes sanity.

Thank you for entering the conversation, Larry. Your short story “I Named Her Lola” is one of the more creative, out-of-the-box imaginings I’ve read: the courage to think outside the proverbial box. And standing up to evil, as you say, is freeing and also necessary.
